Welcome to Pod Like a Hole. In season 1, this was the place to hear Marc Alan, Steven Earl, and Eric Monroe discuss all things Nine Inch Nails and give an album (or Halo) analysis on each episode. For Season 2, we discuss all of David Bowie‘s studio work, live albums, and anything else tangentially related to The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, Goblin King, Button Eyes, and more. For Season 3, we RUN THE GAMUT on artists, albums, and bands that we think are some of the most influential in modern music history.

Before we get really silly about the Fragile, we pause for another moment to discuss to the genesis and artist roster of Nothing Records, Trent Reznor's record label. We briefly talk about Prick (again), Pop Will Eat Itself, Pig, 2wo, 12 Rounds, Meat Beat Manifesto, The The, Einstruzende Neubauten, Autechre, Plaid, Plug, Squarepusher, and the Bowling Green. Of course, we'll talk about Marilyn Manson, but that's an entire episode on its own. In fact, it will be the next episode, so stay tuned!

The 5 Year Gap: Quake/Lost Highway/Closure/Remixes
Sunday Mar 04, 2018
Sunday Mar 04, 2018
Marc, Steve, and Eric are joined by Joe Vierra to complete our discussion on the timeframe between the release of The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. We discuss Trent Reznor's work on the game soundtrack Quake, the soundtrack to David Lynch's Lost Highway, The Perfect Drug single and video, the tour and video collection of Closure, and all the remixes he produced for a variety of artists and bands. Eric and Marc manage to fight about instrumental music, Joe gives everyone a history lesson on Drum 'n Bass music from the mid-90's, and Steve moderates it all. Jump in as we wade through 5 years of Nine Inch Nails doing anything else besides releasing a full length album.

The 5 Year Gap: The Crow & Natural Born Killers
Monday Feb 19, 2018
Monday Feb 19, 2018
In this episode, Marc, Steven, and Eric are joined by Joe Vierra to discuss the years between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. In this time, Trent Reznor delved into the world of soundtracks. First, he submitted a track to the film The Crow and normally we would mention it and move on. However, Steven has such an emotional connection to the film, he wanted to go track by track and discuss the film. We will not be doing that for the Tomb Raider soundtrack. Also, we dip our feet into the band Prick because Eric loves to tell the story how he saw them open for Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie. Finally, we get into the nonsense of the film and soundtrack of Natural Born Killers. This at least makes sense, because Trent arranged the entire soundtrack for the film so we'd better talk about it.

In this episode, Marc, Eric, and Steven complete their discussion on The Downward Spiral and this time it wasn't deleted. You the lucky listener finally get to hear Eric break down the album into a three act narrative. We also venture into the Closer/Closer to God singles and the remix release of Further Down the Spiral. Eric once again defends 25 remixes of one song that repeats the same sound for 12 minutes whilst Marc and Steven do their best to figure out if Dave Ogilive prefers to be called Rave.

The Downward Spiral Part 1
Saturday Dec 09, 2017
Saturday Dec 09, 2017
In this episode, your intrepid hosts delve into the abyss that is The Downward Spiral. Well, the first half anyway. We go over pop culture events that were lighting up the charts in 1994, the origins of The Downward Spiral recording, and the videos that blurred out nudity and had missing scenes peppered throughout. Speaking of missing scenes, the last twenty minutes were lost to the editing gods, so this episode ends on a cliffhanger. Will Eric get the time to act out his three act narrative based on The Downward Spiral? Will Steven finally nail his impression of a screeching guitar solo by just using vocal sounds? Will Marc even show up on the next episode after being fired for losing the last half of the episode? Tune in!

Broken & Fixed

Thursday Oct 26, 2017
In this episode of POD LIKE A HOLE your hosts, Steven E. Chambers, Eric Anderson, and Marc Branstad give you a track by track analysis of Nine Inch Nails' EP Broken and a breakdown of the subsequent remix album Fixed. We also delve into the never officially released Broken long form video that, by all intents and purposes, was not safe for humanity.
Marc thinks Nine Inch Nails have never played two particular songs from the catalog live (they have). Eric sounds like he's recording in a faraway land (He's not.) We all continue to make mouth guitar sounds when describing the music, so everyone wins!

Welcome to episode 1 of Pod Like A Hole. In this episode Marc, Steven, and Eric take you through the first four Halo releases of Nine Inch Nails and give a track by track analysis of Nine Inch Nails debut album, Pretty Hate Machine. We also spend a little time discussing what Trent Reznor was up to before Nine Inch Nails and why we like them/him so damn much.
