Welcome to Pod Like a Hole. In season 1, this was the place to hear Marc Alan, Steven Earl, and Eric Monroe discuss all things Nine Inch Nails and give an album (or Halo) analysis on each episode. For Season 2, we discuss all of David Bowie‘s studio work, live albums, and anything else tangentially related to The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, Goblin King, Button Eyes, and more. For Season 3, we RUN THE GAMUT on artists, albums, and bands that we think are some of the most influential in modern music history.

This episode finds Eric, Marc, and Steven don our Sunday best to go door to door to spread the good news about Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. But, it isn't all good news when we discuss the bad news that Win Butler got himself into recently.

Tom Waits: Rain Dogs
Friday Jun 09, 2023
Friday Jun 09, 2023
You and your buddies flip your collars, as the rain pours down. You huddle under an awning as you finish your smokes.Life is good. You are young, independent, and ready for trouble. Then you head in to the bar. the joint. The dive. It's your home away from home. Speaking of home, the bartender tells you that the police department called, and your house is on fire. Then it occurs to you. You aren't young. You are 42. And then occurs to you that you've left your children home along to go drink...
That scene and so many more await you on the Pod Like A Hole track-by-track review of Tom Waits' 1985 classic. With still one foot in the boxcars, Tom Waits explores European avant-garde influences and the results...well you'll have to listen to Eric , Marc and Steve figure it all out. How will they rate this album? Is Rain Dogs an old dog, or a dead dog? How would you rate this one, gentle listeners.

Tom Waits: Waitstory
Tuesday May 30, 2023
Tuesday May 30, 2023
You find your self in an old boxcar bouncing over the railroad track with an old hobo howling in your ear. Tales of love and loss, old dogs and prostitutes. It's a cornucopia of creamed corn , but somewhere in that whiskey soaked word salad is the story of a man. A man who harnessed the sound of a junkyard, cobbled it into a beautiful sound and aimed it our hearts.
This is the story of Tom Waits, as only your boys at Pod Like a Hole can tell it. In anticipation of our track-by-track review of his classic album "Rain Dogs", Eric, Steve and Marc hop in that boxcar and take that California trip.

It is the second and final episode of our Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band mini season: track by track discussion of Darkness on the Edge of Town.
In the first installment we had an overview discussion of our history with E Street and their discog. In this episode we take a deeper dive into Bruce's 10 song long 1978 heart of darkness that contains many moments of joy as well.
How many sax solo samples can we get away with posting? How many of Bruce's album covers aren't terrible? What exactly is Bruce proving all night? Tune in and find out. RIP Big Man.

Steve has hi-jacked the show for two episodes of in depth Boss Talk. Thankfully the other hosts are game and a Bruce time is had by all. Bruce is for everyone, and if you don't already believe that - you will.
Part 1 is all Bruce all the time with Plugs and News that are all E Street. Followed by the hosts personal history with the boss, Pop Culture E Street band musings, Clarence Clemons, and the bulk of the episode which is an end to end capsule review tour through Bruce and the E Street bands albums.
Join us next time for the main event in Part 2 as we cover Darkness on the Edge of Town with a track by track discussion of Badlands and Promised Lands.
RIP Big Man.

Peter Gabriel - ”So”
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
In 1986, an ex-prog rocker introduced himself to the pop landscape and blew the doors right off. Peter Gabriel, the suave art-rocker who was equal parts world music advocate, equal parts horndog-with-a-heart-of-gold, made an album so catchy, so honest, so unique that it captured the imaginations of music snobs and normies alike. That album was "So", and your Pod Like a Steam hosts are here to evaluate it, Sledgehammer-by-sledgehammer, hit by hit.
Play along at home, give this seminal record a spin, and join Marc, Eric and Steve as they spend a little time celebrating Peter's discography, time with the band Genesis, and score work before diving in to "So". It'll be a good time. You might get a little hot and bothered, but who could blame ya.
Also- Pod Like a Hole studios apparently is still infested by frogs ever since the Tool episode. Our apologies we are working on that.

Radiohead - Kid A
Tuesday Jan 17, 2023
Tuesday Jan 17, 2023
In this episode, Marc selects Radiohead’s album from 2000, Kid A to discuss with Eric and to mildly annoy Steve. We take a brief look at the band pre- and post-Kid A to determine when they decided to have Q*Bert, the lovable orange video game thing, join the band. Then, as always, we go track by track to determine just how icy and cold the band sounds on the record as it shows on the album cover.
