Welcome to Pod Like a Hole. In season 1, this was the place to hear Marc Alan, Steven Earl, and Eric Monroe discuss all things Nine Inch Nails and give an album (or Halo) analysis on each episode. For Season 2, we discuss all of David Bowie‘s studio work, live albums, and anything else tangentially related to The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, Goblin King, Button Eyes, and more. For Season 3, we RUN THE GAMUT on artists, albums, and bands that we think are some of the most influential in modern music history.

Black Heart Procession: ”Amore De Tropico”
Thursday Dec 08, 2022
Thursday Dec 08, 2022
Crashing waves. The warbling of a saw in the distance. A suspicious waiter, and a dead lover. It’s 2002 and your hosts, Eric, Steve and Marc, don their magnifying glasses, Panama hats, and Tommy Bahama shirts. It’s a tropical musical mystery and your Pod Like a Hole hosts are asking the hard questions. Who were “The Black Heart Procession”? What was their hit album “Amore De Tropico” really about? Who is that strange man bellowing about frozen peas?! Your boys are on the case. Listen to the episode as we dissect each track of this haunting album, dusting for prints and removing the clues. We're sipping mai-tais, and breaking this case wide open.

Black Heart Procession - History
Monday Nov 21, 2022
Monday Nov 21, 2022
It's a cold November morning. A dead leaf does a dance in front of your feet as you walk through the breeze. You walk by a storefront, the newspaper headline is "Invasion of Afghanistan" another bitter reminder that the world is harsh. The only evidence you are still alive is the steam in air as you breath. But that steam is snuffed by the cold air. Cold like the ice in your heart. It's 2002 and you've just discovered Black Heart Procession, and all that pain gets a little better knowing this strange band, with it's saws and broken pianos, well they understand you. In the next main episode of Pod Like a Hole, your boys will time travel to when they first came together in their early 20s, and dissect Black Heart Procession's, "Amore De Tropico" . But not yet, no if being a broken hearted sadsack has taught you one thing, it's patience. No this week, we will dive into the history of Black Heart Procession, Pall Jenkins, Tobias Nathanial, Three Mile Pilot, early 00's indie rock, and the dying art of a good small club merch table. We hope you enjoy the journey. Lateralus
Saturday Oct 29, 2022
Saturday Oct 29, 2022
In this episode, we peel back the layers of the 2001 Tool album, Lateralus. We attempt to separate our minds from our bodies as we overthink and overanalyze every track on the record. Does Marc and Steve’s feelings of nostalgia outweigh Eric’s skepticism? Or will there be a developing schism on the pod?

Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
In this episode, the hosts of Pod Like a Hole drive to the nearest Home Depot to go through every Tool aisle in the store to bring you this episode that needs no Home Improvement, if you ask me.
We discuss all things Tool (the band, not saws and hammers) and everything that orbits the band. Next episode we squee-gee our third eye open to analyze the 2001 album, Lateralus.
Until then, we hope this heaping helping of Tool talk tides you over.

Velvet Underground- ”Loaded”
Thursday Sep 08, 2022
Thursday Sep 08, 2022
Ride Into The Fun! That's right it's a new episode , and your Hole Boys (Eric, Steve, Marc) are dimming the lights, chomping on cigarette holders, turning on the lava lamps, painting some soup cans, rolling up their sleeves and numbing themselves with the proto-punk drone jams of the house band. None other than Velvet Underground. We cover their early Warhol-history, avant garde nightmares and softer 70s moods. Then it's on to the Track by Track of their final 1970 album "Loaded". Will they love it or will it be old hat? Only a listen will tell you for sure.

Fad Gadget - ”Under the Flag”
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
The year is 1982 and Frank Tovey (aka Fad Gadget) releases the album "Under the Flag", a thematic record tackling the stress of raising a child in a world of increasing threats of fascism. We discuss the history of Fad Gadget and Frank Tovey and give this record the Track-by-Track treatment. It's an important record to electronic, industrial, and synth pop genres, and a milestone for co-host Eric. Will the others like it? Hate it? Dance? Cover themselves in shaving cream and feathers.....and more importantly, dear listener, WILL YOU? Listen and find out.

Depeche Mode - Ultra
Monday Jun 13, 2022
Monday Jun 13, 2022
We conclude our trilogy of talking Depeche Mode by reviewing and analyzing 1997's Ultra. Does it hold up to our feelings of nostalgia? Does it sag under all of its emotional baggage? Or is it somewhere in-between being both?
