Welcome to Pod Like a Hole. In season 1, this was the place to hear Marc Alan, Steven Earl, and Eric Monroe discuss all things Nine Inch Nails and give an album (or Halo) analysis on each episode. For Season 2, we discuss all of David Bowie‘s studio work, live albums, and anything else tangentially related to The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, Goblin King, Button Eyes, and more. For Season 3, we RUN THE GAMUT on artists, albums, and bands that we think are some of the most influential in modern music history.

There are 4 Elements of Hip Hop. The mic, the turntable, the breakdance and the spray paint. There are also 4 elements to Pod Like a Hole. Marc, Eric, Steve and Ethan Hunt.
In celebration of our next proper episode, a track by track analysis of "Run the Jewels 4", 2 out of those 4 elements (Eric and Steve) present a very special B-Side. In this bonus episode we look at the solo careers of the Run the Jewels members: Killer Mike and El-P. Our focus remains zeroed in on El-P's record label (Def Jux) , where he released most of his solo albums and a slew of unbeatable , underground boom bap MCs. Def Jux meant more than Eric and Steve can explain to their own development as music fans, but they sure will try.
Rock your yankee to the side and enjoy the sludgy doom rap of Def Jux.
See you next time for "RTJ4"

Deftones - White Pony
Sunday Jul 11, 2021
Sunday Jul 11, 2021
To conclude our discussion on the Deftones, the hosts at Pod Like a Hole analyze White Pony track by track. The third album is considered the album that pushes the Deftones into a new level of the nu-metal category and arguably ejects them from the genre.
Join us as we saddle up the White Pony (with a respectful nod to the Black Stallion remixes) and ride through the dark backroads of this modern classic.

In the spirit of celebrating The Deftones , and in preparation of our official "White Pony" episode, we decided to give a little context to the music scene in Sacramento, especially during the late 90's early 00's. This will give some context to why that album was so special, geographically speaking.
In this episode we speak with local musician and Sacramento music scene stalwart Sean Bivins (Eightfourseven, Will Haven
Enjoy our conversation (and Steve's follow up with Joey from NYC coming soon) about this unique scene and a little context to the time and place before we drop our White Pony episode.

Sunday Jun 20, 2021
In this episode, the hosts take you through the Deftones history and discography in preparation for the discussion and analysis of White Pony.
As always, we strive to answer the burning questions of the day. Do they shake off the label of being simply poster children for Nu Metal? Do they deserve a key to the city for their musical heroics? As fellow Sacramentans, have we ever crossed paths with them in a dark alleyway or a local dive bar? Find out these answers and more in a rundown of the Deftones' career.

Clipping.: Splendor and Misery Pt. 2
Friday Jun 04, 2021
Friday Jun 04, 2021
We are back to conclude our coverage of the industrial hip-hop group Clipping and their ambitious 2016 concept album "Splendor and Misery". Eric, Steve and Marc wrap this one up for you with a track-by-track analysis.
This album is the story of the relationship between an escaped slave from the future and the computer AI of the ship he commandeers. It explores the nature of freedom and the history of shackles.
Will Marc appreciate Daveed Diggs' spaced aged swagger?
Will Steve graffiti #2331's lyrics on the side of his neighbor's house?
Will Eric freestyle over the entire album instead of actually reviewing it, as a bit of a high concept Rick-roll?
You've got to listen to know for sure.

Clipping: Splendor and Misery Pt.1
Thursday May 27, 2021
Thursday May 27, 2021
For this season of Run the Gamut, we've got a few grimy, head bopping hip hop albums. Of course the diamond dice, in their infinite wisdom, have rolled one of the most unconventional boom bap records on this list. The experimental, concept story of Clipping's "Splendor and Misery" is a heavy one, but there's work to do before we get to that.
In this Introductory episode, your PLAHBoys go through their history of Hip Hop music. It's a fun L-train ride through the sights and sounds of hip hop in the 90s and 00's. Your hosts don't stray too far, as we wrap this up with the history of the group Clipping. We talk Daveed Diggs, Hamilton and Snipes & Hutson and the career of this strange Industrial/Hip Hop project. We'll follow this one up with a track by track analysis of "Splendor and Misery" next week. As always, enjoy the talk and let us know your hip hop history.

Friday May 21, 2021
If you just got into town about an hour ago, took a look around to see which way the wind blow, you will know that the big boys from Pod Like a Hole are talking about The Doors sixth studio album from 1971 L.A. Woman.
Last episode we took you through a history of the Doors and now it's time to go track by track on Marc's nomination of L.A. Woman. Are you a lucky listener in the City of Night? Or jusa nudder loss angle? (I'm pretty sure that's what Mr. Mojo Risin is saying). Anyways, sit back, put this episode on at dusk, and look out at the endless highway while listening to three guys talk about Venice Beach Blues.

Nine Inch Nails and HEALTH released a collaboration in the form of one song last week. At Pod Like A Hole we cut our (with) Teeth on discussing all things Nine Inch Nails, and this will be no different. This is a brief discussion of Health and the song Isn't Everyone on the Pod Like A Hole Podcast.
