For Season 2, we discuss all of David Bowie‘s studio work, live albums, and anything else tangentially related to The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, Goblin King, Button Eyes, and more. For Season 3, we RUN THE GAMUT on artists, albums, and bands that we think are some of the most influential in modern music history.

Murder City Devils: In Name and Blood

In this episode, your hosts take you to a dirty alleyway in the Pacific Northwest to find a bunch of young toughs sitting under a streetlight, howling at the moon with a half-drunk bottle of Rebel Yell being shared between them. Is it a minor league hockey team? Is that Mike Mills from R.E.M. with a cool denim vest with iron-on patches? Both of those assessments could be correct, as we talk about the great band from Seattle, The Murder City Devils, and their 2000 album, In Name and Blood.

In this B-Side, Eric interviews writer Guy Mankowski, author of “Albion’s Secret History: Snapshots of England’s Pop Rebels and Outsiders “. The book is about pop culture rebels of the UK, and their relationship with English society. It’s a fascinating look into why these artists were important, in the context of modern British history. Eric discusses Guy’s works, and the artists that he covers overlapping with Pod Like a Hole’s Run the Gamut season:
- Tricky
- Massive Attack
- The Clash
- Depeche Mode
- The Cure
- The Brit Pop Bunch and many others!
It is a fun, breezy interview with a new friend of the show, and a great music writer. Please enjoy, but more importantly, buy Guy’s book!
Guy will be undertaking a series of interviews with key English artists discussed in the book including Gary Numan, Kate and Dorian from The Long Blondes and Gazelle Twin which will be published on Zer0 Books’ Youtube channel-

Thursday Mar 18, 2021
This week on “Pod Like a Hole: Run the Gamut” The diamond dice have kissed Intern Eric square on the forehead and blessed him with this episode’s pick.
It’s 1994. The world is ablaze with the pulsating synths and stomping beats of industrial music. Front Line Assembly (Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber) ,one of the premiere rivet head artists, are signed to Metal label Roadrunner Records, and they are about to release one of the most lauded, and debated, releases of the genre, “Millennium.”
WATCH! Eric provide a powerpoint presentation on the 3 Phases of Industrial music and where FLA’s history fits in to it.
LISTEN! as Steve shreds some mean Devin Townsend air guitar
FEEL! the the strong arm of the law as Marc weighs in on the Marilyn Manson allegations.
JOIN! us as we have a Swamp Stomp dance-off under the freeway over pass.
That’s right, your Pod Like a Hole Boys are going back to the cold embrace of Industrial music and you, deal listeners, are in for quite a ride.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Henry's Dream
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
In this episode, we conclude our Cave in A Hole series by discussing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds seventh studio album from 1992, Henry's Dream as nominated by Marc.
We discuss the details of the Dream of Henry (not to be confused with Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles, that'll have to wait for Season 4: Adult Contempto like a Hole-oh) and find it not to be a nightmare at all. Well, unless you don't count what's going on with John Finn's wife.
As Marc likes to say, it's a rip roaring episode where a crafty troubadour spins a yarn around the campfire while a bubbling cauldron of Mulligan Stew is a brewin' designed to warm the soul and titillate the mind.

We find out if Nick Cave's mustache inspired one of your intrepid hosts to grow one themselves and if one of our wives was spirited off by the impish Pan wizard, Warren Ellis.
Next episode we finally get down to brass tacks and dissect and analyze Henry's Dream.

NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS RETROSPECTIVE - PART 1 (1979-1996)
Sunday Jan 24, 2021
Sunday Jan 24, 2021
The Pod Like A Hole podcast has landed on an album that is so big we are going to give it the King Ink's treatment. Before the PLAH team dissects the 1992 release Henry's Dream, they are going to go through the timeline from the formation of the Birthday Party, through all of the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds releases, up to what Nick and the band are up to in the current day. We will briefly discuss the sound and the evolution of the band album by album, peppered with observations of various hair styles, cleanliness of undershirts, and how many books Nick wanted us to know he was reading.
We are joined by special guest and friend of the show, Cris Cleen for this first installment in this series we will be covering the chaotic and greasy rock years of 1979 up through 1996. Next episode we will push Cris out of the studio and put on our fancy scarves and sweaters to discuss the (not always so) chill and "mature" era of the band.

Sisters of Mercy: Floodland
Thursday Jan 07, 2021
Thursday Jan 07, 2021
100th Episode! In this season we roll our diamond dice, and it directs to one of our favorite albums of all time. That's the great thing about this "Run the Gamut" season about Pod Like a Hole. This time we landed on the 1986 Goth-Rock classic "Floodland" by Sisters of Mercy. Being Eric's pick, he arrives to the showing in a duster with swinging chains and a shiny cane, ready to show Marc and Steve how those synth bass grooves and reverb guitar riffs can, in fact, get into your veins. Will Dr. Avalanche make an appearance? Will Marc ever get the stains out of his white linen suit? Most importantly, will Hard Rock-meister Steve feel the spirit of rock'n'roll through this Goth pastiche? If you care about these answers...well that's why you are here. Enjoy.

It's been another year, and we've taken a break from our usual "Run the Gamut" release schedule. Eric, Marc, and Steve get together, share some 'nog, and celebrate the holidays in this very special episode. We discuss thing we enjoy about the yuletide season, do a very exciting Top 10 Holiday Films listicle, and and special guest drops in to say "Ho-ho-Hi!"
It's a good time for all, and our way of singing awful carols on your doorstep, interrupting you dinner, and forcing you to throw hot coffee at us so we'll scamper silently into the dark.
Enjoy. And Happy Holidays from your Hole Boys.
